To counter the heat-defying season, people may enjoy communal pools for splashy fun and relaxation as they soak in the summer sun. While communal bathtubs are more exciting than home pools, the former often becomes infested with molds and bacteria. As a result, infections can occur. It is important to keep off the mold to ensure that we do not become infected with bacterial and fungal diseases.

One of the many ways of doing this is by using hypochlorous acid. In the early 19th century, the hypochlorous acid gained recognition for effectively killing molds and bacteria. It was, therefore, seen as an excellent way to treat drinking water.

Together with other sanitation methods such as filtration, recommended of the 1920s included the use of hypochlorous acid in pool water. This important discovery helped keep pool-borne diseases in check. In addition to killing molds in pools, the acid is extensively used to eradicate molds attached to bathroom walls.

Orthosilic Acid as a major form of bioavailable silicon for both humans and animals, has not been given adequate attention so far. Silicon has already been associated with bone mineralization, collagen synthesis, skin, hair and nails health atherosclerosis, Alzheimer disease, immune system enhancement, and with some other disorders or pharmacological effects. -Nutrition and Metabolism, January 8th, 2013

Bio-available Silidyn® Ortho Silicic Acid (OSA) is a superior form of silicon that has been developed to contribute to the effective support and healthy maintenance of hair, skin, bones, tendons, ligaments and cartilage. Ortho Silicic Acid (OSA) has a high absorption rate and has a positive effect on muscle tone, joint mobility, collagen production, improved hair, skin and nails and detoxification of toxic metals.

When it comes to remineralization and anti-aging, we highly recommend Silidyn as a source of ortho-silic acid.

Hypochlorous acid is a strong broad-spectrum destroyer of molds and other pathogens. So, it is important to keep us healthy as it can kill and keep away unhealthy pathogens. Likewise, those whose bathtubs are infested with molds and bacteria are prone to illness and should consider using hypochlorous acid.

Hypochlorous Acid Is a Magic Sanitizer

So, how does hypochlorous acid work the sanitizing magic? When you buy chlorine in the form of granular powder, liquid, or gas, you add it to water to form a weak acid known as hypochlorous acid. The acid is very effective at killing molds and bacteria, such as Salmonella typhi and other bacteria.

How Does Hypochlorous Acid Kill Molds?

Hypochlorous acid is the key to germs and molds destruction. The key property making it lethal to molds is its neutral electrical charge. The cell walls of molds have a negative charge. They, therefore, repel the negatively charged water particles in the water contained in pools. The hypochlorous acid, on the other hand, neither being negatively or positively charged, can make contact with the mold’s surface and invade its cells. As a result, the hypochlorous acid is effectively able to bleach the cell walls of mold.

Once hypochlorous acid gets into the mold, it wreaks havoc by chemically reacting with the pathogen proteins. Asa result, the mold loses its complex origami-like structures. The functionality of the proteins of the mold weakens, thus making its cells become dry.

Since proteins are vital for the existence of any living organism, mold cannot thrive without it. Proteins are involved in all bodily functioning of molds and bacteria. Once the proteins are destroyed, the mold’s ability to thrive perishes.

The chlorine in the acid tears apart the mold, shredding its proteins and cell membrane. Importantly, for the hypochlorous acid to effectively kill molds, the pH of the pool water must be maintained within the range between 7.2 and 7.8. This is the range at which the chlorine element is most effective. If the water is too basic, the acid will not form easily, and if the chlorine is too acidic, then people will feel skin and eye irritation.
